ABC Beer Co.

East Village

The Alphabet City Beer Co. (ABC Beer, familiarly) is both a craft beer store with over 350 varieties ready to go and a bar offering 12 beers on tap that are constantly rotating to satiate the highly developed taste buds of the patrons. A craft meat and cheese counter helps to mitigate the effects of making too merry, not to mention a three-cheese grilled cheese, herbed ham and pecorino sandwich on sourdough bread, and the "brown bag lunch special."

TBA Brooklyn

Converted auto shop run by a host of NYC nightlife vets that is about the music and not the mega-club scene. Truly democratic - with welcoming door policy, relatively inexpensive drinks and a rarefied menu of EDM. Be aware that capacity is limited - roughly 150.

Bar Goto

Cocktail maven Ken Goto - who made his name at Pegu Club ( or is it the other way around?) opens his own spot on the Lower East Side. Tight bar, glowing shelves, Japanese influence cocktails along with Japanese bar foods. Hip crowd, the kind that avoids the mayhem a few blocks over in the LES college chaos around Ludlow.

The Jazz Gallery

The Jazz Gallery is a not-for-profit jazz cultural center providing performance and exhibition space for work in the arts - visual, literary and musical - that takes jazz as its central influence. Our goal is to present an expanded understanding of jazz as a cultural tradition which brings music together with other arts and thus extends far beyond its musical form. Founded in 1995, the Gallery is also chartered as a New York State museum.

The Craic Brooklyn

Craic a difficult word that New Yorkers know intuitively. Its about being fun, and funny, and entertaining, and well... you can find that at this authentic Scottish/Irish pub in Williamsburg! Serving the booming neighborhood with whisky so fine they filtered out the "e" typically found in American whiskeys. Fireplace for the cold times lends to cozy atmosphere to enjoy the flavors offered by huge selection of whiskies. Knowledgable staff make this great place for those in the know to explore new flavors, as well as for newbies to get up to speed.

Break Bar & Billiards

Astoria

A cavernous endeavor that puts the "hall" back in "pool hall," Break is desperately devoted to being a billiard bar in the best possible way. A 55-foot bar dispenses a constantly refreshing and rotating spate of 18 beers and a full-on cocktail selection for the willing. Between (or during) games, a menu of American comfort food will help steady your cue-hand. If the multitude of pool tables are occupied, there's always darts, ping pong, foosball, air hockey, hoops, and even vintage arcade games. Break is one of the best times you'll ever have getting lost figuring out how the streets in Queens work.

Cutting Room

The Cutting Room is a true hotspot, very much part of the NYC celebrity scene. A live music venue, featuring all kinds of music, from singer/songwriter nights to rock 'n roll to Big Band. Lively Happy Hour from 4-7pm, a fantastic menu, and great front room bar crowd. It's also available as a special event/private party venue (they have hosted end -of-season Wrap Parties, SNL tapings, Bar Mitzvahs and the like).

The Ship

Super classy, high end speakeasy from Steve Choo & uber bartenders Cervantes Ramirez and Joseph Schwartz. Craft cocktails in an amazing decor from architect Robert Jamieson. In keeping with the craft cocktail movement the location seems a bit out of place, which, coupled with the interior design, allow patrons to feel they are stepping into a hidden place only for those in the know.

Jimmy at the James

SoHo

Perched above southern SOHO, The James New York’s awe-inspiring Soho rooftop bar, JIMMY, is a very hot ticket during the warm weather months. It boasts a sexy social atmosphere, with an enclosed bar and lounge set against 360-degree views of the downtown Manhattan skyline. The outside deck, framed by the hotel’s architectural “halo,” offers a private rooftop plunge pool surrounded by teak wood decking and outdoor showers. in Guests can order from the classically inspired cocktail menu with ingredients including syrups, bitters and juices prepared in-house from herbs from The James' Chef’s Garden. The bar offers a contemporary interpretation of a classic pub with a 1970’s New York twist. Elements like herringbone floors, a leather trimmed solid wood bar top, brick glazed tile walls, rich blue upholstery and working fireplaces come together to create a sense of warmth. A year-round destination, JIMMY opens into the NYC rooftop pool deck during the warmer months. But whether indoors or out, JIMMY guests are treated to one of the most spectacular views in New York City: a river-to-river vista looking over Midtown, Wall Street, the Brooklyn Bridge and beyond.

The Press Lounge

Hell's Kitchen

Located atop the Ink48 Hotel, with stunning 360 view of Manhattan and Hudson river, the Press Lounge is located just a 15 minute walk from the Theatre District and Times Square. A short walk for New Yorkers but seemingly long enough to keep the crowds at bay, making it a fantastic spot to meet friends for an evening cocktail, or impress a date or clients. Choose from an array of signature cocktails or from their extensive wine list and snack on small plates while watching the sun drop behind the Hudson River and the lights of the city begin to sparkle.

Baby's All Right

A fun hip place with eclectic mix of DJs and live music attracting crowds of young folks in the know. Nightlife is not the only thing, for the fun of the food matches the fun of the vibe, making this a great place to start or end the evening!

Troy Liquor Bar

Meatpacking District

Low frills basement lounge where the denizens of the Meatpacking scene let their hair down, worry less about what shoes they are wearing, and play billiards, foosball and board games.

The Good Room

Greenpoint

The cool kids have fled Williamsburg and march lemming like a few blocks North to Greenpoint. Here they fall into the latest club-cum-bar-cum lounge. Large room with leather banquettes to canoodle in or oggle from. Smaller room for more intimate moments. Like when words ought be spoken, not shouted. Decent sound system thumps out the sounds of some of NYCs hottest DJs and the crowd a mix of the ultra-hip-in-the-know and local gentrifiers.

The Gutter

Williamsburg

What we would call a "Bowler's Bowling Alley" if it weren't for the fact that it is really a "Bowler's Drinking Establishment." The Gutter is for adults - so no children allowed! - which is no sin for an establishment that has the vibe of a bar while sporting beautiful old school lanes and vintage decor. Not digital scoring, and silly dancing pin animations here. The Dude would feel at home here with its focus on booze and bowling (you can bring your own food!).

Bar LunAtico

Bedford Stuyvesant

Known mainly for live music - anything from neo-folk to Jazz. People here take the sound seriously, so do expect some great music, don't expect to talk too much during the sets. Italian small plates to pare with whatever booze you choose. Here is link to their calendar.

Living Room

Theater District

The Living Room, on the 7th floor of the W Times Square at 1567 Broadway is a warm and enticing lobby bar for those seeking the ultimate lounging experience. Designed in conjunction with the Toronto-based design group Yabu Pushelburg, The Living Room is a beautiful 6,000 square foot promenade with white leather seating squares, streamlined hanging lamps and a glowing lacquer bar. Glowing resin alcoves line the perimeter providing intimate seating and the perfect place to enjoy one of the bars tasty libations. Complimented by The Whiskey, the red-hot nightclub in the basement of the hotel, The Living Room offers the ultimate sophisticated lounging experience in New York.

White Horse Tavern

West Village

Vastly popular for over 100 years, dead poet Dylan Thomas drank his last here, then staggered off and died the next morning. Perhaps that explains why the White Horse Tavern remains eternally hip with the college crowds, who seek it out for enormous quantities of beer and spirits. The hamburgers are fine, the rest of the simple menu offers additional fried (and a few non-fried) foods, and the atmosphere here is always festive.

Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden

Ditmars Steinway

Bohemian Hall has the last remaining Outdoor Beer Garden in all of New York City. In 1892, the Bohemian Citizens' Benevolent Society was formed, and in 1910, the Society purchased two adjacent lots, part of a farm. The cornerstone of Bohemian Hall was laid that October. At one time, over 800 beer gardens were in New York City - three in Astoria alone. Only Bohemian Hall and Park survives to carry this proud tradition into the new millennium! The rediscovery has a price: Bohemia can be overrun with hipsters.

Northern Territory

Greenpoint

The big draw here are the stunning views of Manhattan on their rooftop deck. Come early during the warm weather and settle into one of their elegant wooden booths and bask in the sun and booze on hand. Plenty of food on hand from Aussie Meat Pies to a variety of skewers to a great steak. Plenty of specialty cocktails, the tequila based Spicy Paloma being one of our favorites... if memory serves...

Lola Star's Dreamland Roller Disco at Lakeside
